swimming lessons private vs group?
My 3.5 year old twins have been having a private lesson (i.e. just the two of them) for a year, and are doing brilliantly. The only problem i have is that their 3rd teacher is now leaving and we'll be moving onto a fourth. They have all been brilliant and each brought a different dimension to the lesson.

But rather than try a fourth teacher I'm going to leave that school, so i have 2 options, either move to a new private lesson (with the owner so she won't be going anywhere), or go to group lessons.

With a private lesson they get 15 mins attention each, with a group lesson it would be less than 8. But how much more do you think they learn in a private vs group lesson? They can swim about 5-10m front crawl (but no breathing yet) and do back floats and swim on their backs with a float. I just don't know if we should carry on until they can breath on their own.

Any thoughts?

At 3, my son was swimming quite well without assistance. Breathing, proper arm strokes, diving, cannon balls, etc. The summer after his 3rd birthday, so he was 3.5, he was allowed to swim alone in the pool with an adult watching. He has never taken formal lessons, just backyard learning and watching others.

I would think your kids would benefit from group lessons. The mob mentality takes over and sometimes forces the child to learn. Plus, they'll get some additional socialization. Just IMO, put them in group lessons. I'm sure they'll love it!

From my iPhone, probably while BF'ing.

Re: swimming lessons private vs group?
I was waiting till DS2 was more comfortable to consider starting private lessons. In the meantime, DS1 started group lessons (3 to 4 kids) & is really thriving. I am intending to save the $$ & keep both in group lessons. DS2 will start next year when he turns 3.

My oldest is 6 and has done 2 years of group lessons. I would opt for private lessons over the group if you had the chance. Even with group they change teachers fairly often and they don't learn nearly as fast. We do group lessons because it is the only organsed "PE" offered at their school.
