Im going to try a new recipe(chicken pot pie in the crockpot ) but it calls for heavy cream. Is there anything I can use instead thats a little healthier?

Re: Can I substitute anything for heavy cream?
Evaporated milk, full-fat or fat-free. It's stable and won't curdle in the Crockpot. If you try to sub in half-and-half or milk it isn't as stable and might curdle.

Re: Can I substitute anything for heavy cream?
I've subbed 1 TBS butter plus enough milk to fill 1 cup for 1 cup of heavy cream before.
I'm not sure it's really "healthier" though or how that would work in a crock pot. |
Re: Can I substitute anything for heavy cream?
I have done half and half before but not in the crock pot. I know your trying a new recipe but since my dd has dairy issues we don't use milk at all in chicken pot pie. We use broth thickened with flour (usually do it stove top). You could use broth with corn starch to thicken in the crock pot.
