Meet the Phonics is a great dvd series (they also have books, cards, etc. but I don't have experience with those).

We uses leapfrog videos to Learn letter sounds and bought phonics pathways after that...

Re: Favorite phonics program?
Depends on how deep you're wanting. If you're wanting one that teaches the rules and will have them reading well, then I recommend Sing, Spell, Read, and Write. It's pricier than a lot of other programs, but it is complete. I've taught all 3 of my kids to read with it.
If you are simply wanting something that will cover the basic sounds, the Leap Frog stuff works well. We didn't actually use anything for basic sounds. We just did it during the day as it came into conversation. |
Re: Favorite phonics program?
I've used Hooked on Phonics starting at age 2 with both of my kids. They both knew upper and lower case letters and nearly all the sounds by age 3. We mainly use the DVD and talk through the pages in the preschool workbook at that age. Sometimes we'll have a scavenger hunt of things that start with a certain letter. My oldest started reading on his own a few months before turning 4. Both of my kids love it and I love that it's simple and easy.

I love Reading Eggs and Explode the Code

Re: Favorite phonics program?
My oldest loved watching Leap Frog but my youngest didn't. If you are wanting an actual program we liked Funnix for learning to read. I have used progressive phonics as well but I think Funnix is more thorough and by the end my children could actually read well above grade level.

Alphaphonics has been recommended to me but i have not purchased or tried it yet.
