Vitamin D to supplement breast milk?

My son's pediatrician prescribes vitamin D drops for all breastfeed babies. The "other" ingredients include: glycerin, purified water, polysorbate 80, citric acid, carmel, cholecalciferol, sodium citrate, sodium hydroxide, and artificial cherry flavor.

I looked each of these things up online and they are considered "safe" preservatives. Still, I really don't feel fully comfortable giving this to my baby. Is there anyone else who feels the same way? What do you do?

I don't even like to eat things where I can't even read or understand the ingredients, so why would I for my baby? My cousin's doctor just told her to give her baby 10 minutes of sunlight a day. A neighbors' friend orded a pure vitamin D drop from online, which I don't know I'd feel comfortable with that either. Just wondering if anyone else out there knows more about this...

Vitacost sells an infant Vitamin D drop that is literally 1 drop for a dose. Other women have opted to super load themselves with vitamin D (5000IU's or more daily). Only you know what is best for your baby and family.

We don't get outside much, especially in the winter, so our ped recommends a vit D supp for both younger kids (not my oldest, since she walks outdoors every day to school bus stop) I actually had my Vit D levels checked recently and am low- so I am using the same supplement the kids are- it is the Carlson Baby D drops- it's just 1 drop a day, has no flavor, color, etc.

There are other Vitamin D drop options as PP's mentioned with different ingredients. We did supplement our BF baby with Vitamin D. You'll find lots of different opinions. I would personally look for a Vit D drop you're more comfortable with and use that. :)

Thank you all, I looked at all the options and decided to order the Carlson's Baby D drops. Just what I was looking for, no added preservatives, coloring, flavoring, etc. One drop will make it easier for me also...much better than the current 1 ml that he ends up spitting out half of anyway (can't put in anything because he's exclusivly BF). Thanks!

I also use Carson D drops. They work perfectly for us. I also take 5000 myself everyday.
