Is this weird?
 

To find a babysitter that we don't use regularly? I just want someone I trust and can call to ask to come over for a few hours on x day.

I'm wondering if potential sitters would be turned off by the lack of regularity.

Not weird at all. Most people aren't available on a regular basis but don't mind sitting occasionally. In my experience the more people you have that you can trust to babysit the better. I start with immediate family and have several friends and church family we call on when needed.
