shingles

A woman I work with just let me know she has a terrible case of shingles. I'm in close contact and I used her camera right after she did. Should I be worried? I don't remember ever having chicken pox, but when I was pregnant with my first I tested positive for antibodies, so I should be protected, right?

Re: shingles

I get shingles while pregnant/nursing (long story short, get them yearly for the past 23ish years :(). You'll be fine if you do contact them. But know that you can only get them if you have touched her open sores.

:hugs:

and yes you can only get shingles if you've had cp before

You are fine. My co worker came down with it too, right before I had my baby.

I had shingles last year. No one else in my family got it. Just don't rub all over her open sores and you should be fine:)

Like others said, as long as you don't touch the sores you will be fine. My grandma had shingles and was told by her Dr that it wasn't contagious, but I applied some lotion for her (it was on her back and she couldn't reach) and a few days later I had shingles too. It hurts! Luckily it doesn't last long with antibiotics.

Re: shingles

A person with no immunity to chicken pox could catch chicken pox from your coworker with shingles (but only by touching the sores). If you are immune to chicken pox, then you can't catch anything from the coworker.
Shingles is a re-activation of the dormant chicken pox virus already in your own body. You don't catch it from anybody, it's just something that can happen because after you recover from chicken pox the germs never totally go away - they linger and can cause shingles later on.
