Wheat free baking

I am trying to a avoid wheat! Since I do the cooking we are all eating way less wheat!
I love to bake so I'm looking for a good flour for cookies, banana bread, etc.
I sub ground oatmeal in waffles and pancakes and have have good success but it did not work in cookies!!
Looking for suggestions. Thanks!
