My son has developmental issues. He's six and at the start of summer he couldn't pedal or steer. After 1 month of working on it he was riding independently without training wheels. The 2 summers before he rode tandem on my bike. This helped him pedal. He would pedal backwards since there was no resistance. We still do tandem or longer bike rides.

Then this summer I started using this

I couldn't put his training wheels on with it. The first week I basically pushed him, steered, and held him up. He started balancing fairly quick and then pedaling. Steering took us the longest but he got it!

Btw, I love balance bikes too. I didn't think there was any way he would balance so i didnt get one but the ended up being the easier part
