To answer the question: I was spanked as a child, don't feel like it did any harm to me personally, suspect it may have encouraged violence in our relationships as siblings, and have no intention of spanking my daughter, ever (partly in principle, and partly because I don't trust myself to be "responsible" with physical discipline).
