Another thing to point out is that a good latch involves the baby coming to the breast chin first. If their chin is where it is supposed to be, then their little noses will be out of danger.

It sounds like your baby is "under" your breast tissue which could be too heavy for him to move away from. Try leaning back more. A good mantra is "Bring baby to breast, not breast to baby." I sit leaned far back into my couch and then latch my baby by bringing them into me. Since they don't have the weight of the breast on their face/body, they latch better, nurse more efficiently/quickly and no risks of suffocation.
