Skipping Thanksgiving ~ Gasp!
Anyone else ever pondered this? I've always had a big Thanksgiving for my family, we are talking the whole day: Breakfast breads and special coffees, snacks/special candy, the big dinner with all the trimmings and desert. This year Dh and I have decided to skip it and take the children that are still at home to Disneyland
Unreal to say the least but exciting as well. I figure since the remaining children have husbands or are "betrothed" they can spend the day with their other families I know I sound awful but after 25 years of the it all ~ I daring to do something different Anyone else ever done this

Re: Skipping Thanksgiving ~ Gasp!
I say go for it as long as your kiddos are okay with it. I love the whole tradition and it deeply saddens me when it changes.

Re: Skipping Thanksgiving ~ Gasp!
sounds awesome!
we are debating going to my sister's for thanksgiving this year...she lives 3 hours away. My parents and other sister are going there. I don't know what my inlaws are doing...they may be going to my fil's sisters house. I would love to just go somewhere and not worry about it Don't need to cook, worry about the kids not behaving

We pretty much leave thanksgiving up to the kids. Whatever they want! The only traditions around here involve staying flexible and keeping an open mind. Disneyland sounds great!

Re: Skipping Thanksgiving ~ Gasp!
I am thinking of doing something similar. Anything so I don't have to cook while pregnant. We were going to go on a camping trip to a cabin with the kiddies.

Re: Skipping Thanksgiving ~ Gasp!
I would be sad if my parents decided to skip a holiday, it's usually the only time I see some of my grown nieces and nephews.

Re: Skipping Thanksgiving ~ Gasp!
I often skip the big turkey dinner and go for a smaller meal. When DS was little I made a Chicken or individual cornish hens. DS told everyone we ate baby turkey or how he ate his whole turkey all by himself!
The last few years we got free turkeys (from DH's work) so we did a turkey but only a few side items. We freeze a lot of the leftovers. We don't have any family close by and I refuse to travel during a "holiday". I have joked for several years that I was going to "skip" the whole thing and go eat a buffet at the Native American Casino. It would be less work and then I could tell the kids how the first meal was not only to be thankful of the harvest but also cross-cultural. (Well that is the excuse I use to try to get out of it!)

Re: Skipping Thanksgiving ~ Gasp!
I think it sounds great and my parents have always wanted to do Disneyworld for Thanksgiving but never had the confidence to stand up to my Grandparents.
I say go for it and have a blast!

Re: Skipping Thanksgiving ~ Gasp!
Now, if you said you were skipping Thanksgiving and just sitting around the house all day in loneliness instead, I would feel bad. But going to Disney World? That is definitely something to be thankful for!!!
I hope you all have a ton of fun!
