Jr National Young Leaders Conference

My son was nominated to attend this conference as the 5th grade male representative of his school. Does anyone know about this conference? I have contacted the person at school who nominated him and am waiting for her to call me back. I am concerned about a chaperone while he is on this trip. He has never traveled without my husband and I before. Depending on what she tells me I may decide to go with him and the girl that was nominated if there is no chaperone from the school.

DH and I went to the National Young Leaders Conference in DC when we were Juniors in high school. We had a wonderful time. It really was an awesome experience. We were supervised, but since we were older, we did have times we were on our own. We were also all on our own for the travel. NYLC reps did pick up us at the airport and transfered us to the National 4H conference center in Chevy Chase, MD where we stayed.

While I would definitely recommend it for high school students, I don't know enough about the Jr. program to recommend it. I think I would have a rough time letting my 5th grader go that far for so long without knowing the chaperone.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I think it would be great for him but I am not ready to let him travel on his own. Maybe when he is older.
