I am doing a room makeover for my girls who share a room, ages 7 and 13. Any ideas on what an age appropriate quilt/duvet cover would be for a 13 year old girl? Thanks!

I would get her a quilt that wasn't too "girly" that she could keep and use in her house as an adult...if she has a twin bed something that would maybe be appropriate for like keeping on the couch...or if she has a full bed something that she could use in a spare/guest room as an adult....then to make it good for now throw in some great pillows and shams that were cute and girly to make it feel "young" ...like ones with words on them, or sparkle etc.

I received a queen size down comforter for christmas when I was 12 and it is still what I use 9 years later. My mom let me pick out the cover that I wanted..I chose a penguin pattern at the time.

An idea would be to do a solid quilt/comforter with fun decorative pillows. That way as she grows older and her tastes change you can easily swap out the pillows but the comforter is the same.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! My dd has special needs, so she won't ever be moving out, but I definitely want her to love it and use it for years to come!

Here is a bit more info. My girls share a master bedroom, they are now 7 and 13 but when we moved here they were 2.5 and 8. The room is very young looking with butterflies and flowers everywhere and I think they have both outgrown it. I am updating the room little by little as I can, and as part of their holiday gift this year I wanted each girl to have a new quilt.

The furniture is all white and the room is panted this color: http://www.homedepot.com/buy/paint/p...l#.ULJcUIfeeRY it is less intense than it looks, actually a very pretty color.

I am trying to update their stuff to reflect their individual likes and dislikes. My middle daughter *loves* all things space and planet related and has recently put up a solar system mobile and glow in the dark planets. I am hoping to find something for my older girl that will not look horrible next to it. I have a land of nod outlet near me so that is where I am looking b/c the prices are great, but I am open to other possibilities as well. My older girl used to love love love hot pink, but I think she's outgrowing that a bit. She is still very girl but likes things that are a bit spunky as well. I also plan to get new curtains for them also.

here are some things I was thinking of, do you ladies think any of these would look ok with the planets quilt? Do any of them look like they would work for an older girl?

but I worry that if I do go with pink there is no hope of having the room look coordinated

Maybe you could do a reversible quilt. A print on one side like the land of nod wildflower quilt but with a solid navy on the back to coordinate with the solar system quilt. I think the solid would make it look more mature also.

I have to say I love those curtain rods. They are so pretty definately not too young in my opinion.
