My DD recently requested a haircut (to "short" hair). It was kind of a frivolous request and she hasn't brought it up again.
She has really curly hair and it is often a pain to comb through.... but she doesn't mind comb-outs.
Anyhow.... if any mamas of curly girls did a 5yr-old-ish hair cut - did it go back to looking at all like your babygirl did when she was 2 or 3 and the curls were so soft and bouncy? (wishful thinking!!

The back can get really dread-y. Its curlier underneath. This is not a great example photo. :/

Wow your DD's hair has changed so much!

My DD got her first haircut at age 6, and I wish we'd never cut it. My DD's hair never changed like yours though. It looked the same before and after we cut it, and the same now that's it's grown back out. The curls, I mean.

One of my younger sisters had/has hair like your lo. If she doesn't get it cut from someone who knows what they are doing it won't curl up properly. I think if she got it cut really well you might see a difference in how it curls.

Honestly, no. I'm pretty sure you will not see that same curl some back. My 5 and 3 year old's both had curls when little, but once they were cut off, they were gone for good. So sad

You might get some curl back with a good cut and following hair care meant for curly hair. Google the curly girl method!

I agree with this...kids' hair texture changes from their "baby" hair to their "big kid" hair. Your DD's texture may never be the same again.

That said, she definitely has a lot of wave/bend/curl in her hair as it is now. I'd look into the CG method (when I do what I'm supposed to, my hair looks great!) & consider getting her hair shaped (b/c the overall length isn't bad) by someone who really specializes in curly, wavy, or textured hair. I just got my first Deva Cut & it really is incredible, but I've also gotten good Ouidad cuts, texture & shape cuts, & even from a few non-specialist stylists who really know curly hair. The way you wash it & handle it will probably make the biggest difference...I'd recommend getting the Curly Girl Handbook. The 2nd edition comes with a DVD that demonstrates how to give a good trim at home, too. It might even be available through your local library.

Well I'm 20 years older then your DD, but I have very curly hair and the person cutting it will make a LOT of difference. Every new person I try makes a terrible mess. I have ONE person I have found in 25 years who can cut my hair! If you use products, Herbal Essences Totally Twisted mousse is awesome and would prob put a lot of curl back in her hair.

I have curly hair like your DD and DON"T cut it short!!! When I've cut my hair short it just turned into a gigantic "fro" for the lack of a better word. My hair needs the weight of being long to look decent.

Mine too. The weight gives it length instead of height

Yes. You can trim it to make it even and maybe give it some layers to help the curls out, but don't cut it short. 3 year old hair is very different. It won't ever be the same. Mine isn't. But mine is still curly, just not the silky smooth bouncy curls I had as a toddler/preschooler. It's more coarse now and frizzes much more easily. (going by photos since I don't remember

My daughter's hair is curly. She is 5. We give her trims fairly often because it grows unevenly and hangs and curls much nicer when it's trimmed. My mom is our hairdresser since she used to be one.

One of my DD's has curly hair like that. Straighter hair on top and tight curls underneath. I have no idea what to do with it. We had it cut once when she was about 18 months old to even it up, but haven't in about a year now because I just don't know what kind of cut she needs. In all honesty, I don't even know how to properly style it. Brush it out = big hair. It's adorable, but it looks messy almost all the time. I'm not so much into putting product in a 2 year old's hair, but maybe I need to try it before I rule it out.....
