Oh no it is beginning!
I had to ground my 10 year old this morning for rolling his eyes at me multiple times and saying whatever to me like I was the scum of the earth.
He did it 2x while I was trying to get him organized for school this morning so I stopped him and told him it was very disrespectful and can hurt someone's feelings. He did it again and said whatever so I said, one more time and your grounded. I got the snob snort and another eye roll. :sigh: what happened to my sweet little boy and who dropped this rude hormonal pre-teen off?

I've been there for a few years. It will stop when he's 38. Good luck!

Re: Oh no it is beginning!
I can't even imagine. I have a 7 year old who still LOVES his mommy. Are you telling me I only have 3 years (2 1/2 really) before the major attitude begins? I'm a little weepy eyed just thinking about it.

Re: Oh no it is beginning!
My 11yo DD doesn't do the eyeroll but she throws her head back and says Ugh! I tell her to be careful or her head might fall off. She's the oldest and has the least attitude of all 4 of mine.

Re: Oh no it is beginning!
I hear ya. Mine has been trying to do that for awhile. He usually gets hit hard with extra chores like washing windows, cleaning the porch, extra yard work, etc and that stops it fairly quickly. He wants to be my sweet little guy sometimes and wants to act like he's 16 the next!

I teach middle school. Welcome to the tween years.
Its a crazy ride, but stay firm. I can tell you exactly which kids have firm boundaries, and which kids have "when it is convenient" boundaries.

For us, it's usually been age 12. My 14 yr old still makes me cry sometimes....and his response? "Women are too emotional". Grrrrr
