What's your opinion of these names?
Esther or Essex Meneely
Do you think Essex is going to get teasing or do you think it's as lovely as I do? Please be very honest. I'm asking for it. |

Re: What's your opinion of these names?
Hmmm, I don't like Essex. I just don't like the sound of it. Too offbeat for me, but that's just my taste. It might be really hard for a little kid to say with all those "s" sounds. I'm thinking of how little kids often say "th" instead of "s".
I do really like Esther. Classic but not terribly common.

I have to agree with pp about essex, it just doesn't flow well for me. Esther is great though!

I like both names, but I do think that any child will hate having "sex" in their name during their school years!

Re: What's your opinion of these names?
Can't say that I like Essex and I agree about the teasing during school years. It would be a tough name to pull off, but that's just my opinion!

Re: What's your opinion of these names?
Anything with 'sex' in it isn't going to go over well. Essex gets made fun of as a town name, with kids saying "extra sex" instead. Not the best thing to saddle your kid with, even though I'm all for unusual names.

Re: What's your opinion of these names?
I have unusual names in my babes: Ephraim and Luella! I love Esther. I have to agree with the others, that Essex might be hard. We are using Ezra if our LO is a boy.

Re: What's your opinion of these names?
What if Essex ends up with a lisp? Worst thing ever.
But really, I actually like the name, but I do think it will cause embarrassment for the child. she may like it later in life, but dealing with teasing can really effect you for a long time, and I think she will get her fair share

Re: What's your opinion of these names?
I like Essex! I like Esther too... I did notice the 'sex', but I don't think its a big deal.. the stress is on the first symbol so it sounds almost more like six than sex... right?
