Fenugreek, mothers milk tea, and thyroid issues.
I have an under active thyroid and low milk supply. Are fenugreek and tea okay? How much should I take? Thanks!

I'm not sure how it will affect your thyroid, but taking fenugreek and drinking mother's tea will definitely help increase your supply.

Re: Fenugreek, mothers milk tea, and thyroid issues.
Undermedicated hypothyroid will hurt your supply. Fenugreek is safe to take, but if you don't medicate your thyroid, your supply will never be 100%.

in the mean time, you may take mother milk or fenugreek.

Re: Fenugreek, mothers milk tea, and thyroid issues.
I drink tons of water during the day, take levothyroxine (had levels checked 6 months ago)....I just think my LO is impatient and doesn't suck long enough. I get about an ounce when I pump. I started fenugreek this morning. The bottle said 2 capsules a day but everything online says 6 is average? I'm planning on taking 2 capsules twice a day and having one glass of tea at night. Any thoughts, better ideas? Thanks everyone!

Re: Fenugreek, mothers milk tea, and thyroid issues.
kellymom.com is a great website for info on increasing milk supply. In addition to fenugreek, extra pumping, and eating oatmeal also help. There are other galactagogues that you can take but fenugreek is a good one to start with. I think the average dose is 3 pills/3x a day.
here's a link to dosing on fenugreek. http://kellymom.com/bf/can-i-breastf...ugreek/#dosage You might also want to read the section on kelly.mom where it states that your supply might be o.k. even though you think it's not. A baby is a lot more efficient than the pump. Is you lo having adequate weight gain? Enough wet diapers? Etc.? As a pp mentioned, you also want to be sure that your thyroid is at a level it needs to be at otherwise that will negatively affect your supply. You might want to get your level rechecked just to be sure it's o.k.

And, I can't afford to get the level rechecked any time soon. (Unless the fenugreek doesnt help, then i suppose ill have no choice) It's been the same for 9 years so hoping it hasn't changed.
