POLL: Are pre-birth hiccups related to reflux?

So, this is baby number two for me and s/he has had hiccups a lot. I am curious whether anyone has noticed whether their babies who had hiccups prenatally have also had reflux after they are born. As far as I know there is no known correlation, but they both seem to be related to the digestive system, so I am curious.

Not as far as I know. DS had the hiccups a lot when he was in utero. He also had them a lot when he was really little and at the same times :-) He was a spitter but never had reflux or any real belly issues aside from a little occasional gas.

Also, my Ped said that most babies have lots of hiccups and it is just b/c of their immature GI tracts. They grow out of them, generally.

Re: POLL: Are pre-birth hiccups related to reflux?

Both of my kiddos had TONS of hiccups in utero. DS didn't have a bit of reflux. I think DD had a little in her first couple of months but it seems to have totally corrected itself. She didn't require medication or any other intervention.

Re: POLL: Are pre-birth hiccups related to reflux?

Nope, I don't think so.
DD had hiccups all the time, in utero and for the first few months after birth. No reflux.
DS1 rarely had hiccups at all. Bad reflux.
DS2 rarely had hiccups. No reflux.
DS3 had hiccups some - though not as often as DD. No reflux.

Interesting. DS2 had hiccups all the time when I was pregnant (like at least 2-3 a day, 20 weeks on) and did have mild reflux.
