Spices - Where to buy?

I need to buy several different types of spices to refill the glass jars in my spice rack. Typically, I just buy the small spice containers at the grocery store, but they seem pretty expensive. Is there a more cost effective way to buy them, but without ending up with a ton? Most spices I don't go through too quickly.
Has anyone had luck buying spices online?
Thanks!

Do you have a natural foods coop near you? Ours has a ton of different herbs and spices in jars and you can get as much as you need and pay by weight.

Spices I use more often I get from Frontier Coop. I just got pickling spice (because when you need that, you need more then a tablespoon or so) and garlic in bulk (1 lbs).

Hmm, I am unsure if there are natural food coops nearby (I live in CT). Will have to search online. Do natural food stores such as Whole Foods carry spices?

Near us a really inexpensive place for spices is target and latino markets- I'm not sure you've have any near you. I lived in CT so I'm guessing not Also try Trader Joes if you have one near you.

Some Whole Foods carry bulk spices, but I think it is rare. I know of 2 Whole foods around me and ironically, the smaller one does, and the larger one (one of the largest I have been to and I go to Whole Foods everywhere I travel) doesn't.

If you wait till this time next month, the Frontier Coop will be on here (on the Co-op board, an opt in board) and you can get small bags of spices. They don't have everything, but they do have a fair amount.

Penzeys online is good but shipping takes a while, we live near one though. Sprouts carries bulk spices if you live near a Sprouts. You can buy spices in large containers at places like Costco (if you use a lot), I buy my Garlic, Sea Salt, Pepper and Cumin that way (we use a ton of Cumin).

Re: Spices - Where to buy?

I live in a small town so we don't have access to a co-op or anything, either... I like Monterey Bay Spice Co. http://www.herbco.com/ and Mountain Rose Herbs http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/ for ordering bulk spices (also good for ordering teas, and hair dye (cassia)). I try to buy in seed form or whatnot, and grind them myself as needed.

Here are two coops in CT that are part of the same "family" as my coop, I don't know if one might be near you.
