Any massage/physical therapist?

How do you like your job? Do your hands hurt after the day? How is the pay?

I have been thinking about going to school for years. I want to do this.
I am doing a free sports massage class on Friday and I am really excited.

Re: Any massage/physical therapist?

Massage therapy is very physical work. I don't know anyone that has done it full time for more than five years.

Physical therapy is an entirely different field.

I am a massage therapist but do not work full time. It is very hard on your body but can be very rewarding. I have been practicing for 8 years and only work when I can find a baby sitter for my boys. You can make decent money but a lot less than most schools tell you. I am the only person from my class that is still working because I was the only one that was going in knowing I didn't have to make money (I just do it because I enjoy it) Good Luck!

Re: Any massage/physical therapist?

I was a massage therapist, I had to quit after working about 4 1/2 years (plus the 6 months of school) because of repetitive stress injury to my wrists and hands. I loved it though, it makes me sad that I can't do it anymore.

Re: Any massage/physical therapist?

I loved it. I couldn't find a good job after finishing school though. I even had more credentials than just therapeutic therapist so I was HOPING I'd get work (I did sports medicine, reiki, kinesiology, and myofascial release as well). I tried to free-lance for awhile but business was very slow. I held on for maybe 2 almost 3 yrs before I stopped all together. It is very taxing on your body but at the time it wasn't an issue for me. Now my back is worse but I can't say for sure it has anything to do with it besides that it got worse over that time period.

Oh adding in... money. It was good if I could get a client to pay what I asked. I charged 65 an hour but ended up going down to 55 an hour just to keep having a few clients come more regularly.

yeah, I was going to say that physical therapy is completely different. Dh does that and complains more about his feet than his hands.
