Stinky Toddler Breath!
My 20 month olds breath stinks! Its like a stinky sweet smell. I brush her teeth daily, but dang! What kind of tooth paste do you use on your baby? I was using the clear baby orajel tooth cleaner, but it wasnt working to clean DDs teeth. I have been using colgate for children with fluoride for a while now. Is this safe? It doesnt seem to be handling the stink issue that well however. What would you do? She sees the dentist every three months for a fluoride varnish too.

Re: Stinky Toddler Breath!
DD is the same way...I brush her teeth twice a day with the children's Tom's of Maine strawberry toothpaste, but we've tried almost every brand of kids toothpaste out there, both flouride free & flouride added...nothing helps her stinky breath. She went to the dentist and they couldn't find anything that would be causing it and they said that some toddlers just have bad breath and outgrow it

My ODS's breath is the same. I brush his teeth and it still smells odd. Not bad per say, but different. I just use toddler toothpaste I bought at Target. It has a smidgen' amount of flouride in it.

Re: Stinky Toddler Breath!
We use Weleda baby toothpaste and it freshens DD's breath nicely.

Re: Stinky Toddler Breath!
Whenever my DD gets stinky breath, she always gets a cold about a week later.

Re: Stinky Toddler Breath!
I might try tom's of maine. Maybe that will help a little bit. Its probably a lot better than the stuff that I am using for her now anyways!

Re: Stinky Toddler Breath!
it could have to do with diet.
20 months old is pretty young for toothpaste. Less than 2 yrs, you can clean with water and several times per day. And keep an eye on what she eats and what makes it worse. shred up some mint leaves for her to eat/chew on ![]() here's a picture for reference on amount of toothpaste to use with kids, it's not the clearest, but gives you an idea. it's minimal. ![]() ETA less than 2 on the left, 3 - 6 yrs on the right

She is still breastfeeding, and I think a lot of it stems from that. Her breath usually stinks like milk...Rotten milk. Since I am 29 weeks pregnant, I think she is mostly getting colostrum. She does not want to give it up though. She still nurses as soon as she wakes up in the morning, when she takes a nap during the day, sometimes 1-2 more times during the day, when she goes down for sleepy, and she has always woken up atleast once during the night to nurse as well. I think that once the real milk comes in again she will want to nurse more. I dont mind tandem nursing. Ill probably be exhausted though XD. I already am!
