Re: Carseat question???

I'm a CPST. Despite what you are reading above, there is actually no evidence that harnessing is safer than boostering IF the child is ready to be boostered. In order to determine whether or not a child is ready for boostering, there are a few things to check:
1. The child should be AT LEAST 4 years old and weigh AT LEAST 40#.
2. The child needs to be capable of sitting properly in a booster seat 100% of the time, even when he/she sleeps. (Usually this happens sometime between the age of 5-6, but sometimes not until 7 years old.)
3. The child needs to be in a booster seat that positions the car's seatbelt correctly, with the lap belt low across his/her thighs and the shoulder belt across the collarbone, not falling off the edge of the shoulder or cutting into the child's neck.

Re: Carseat question???

My son is 3.5 and is in what I always just called a toddler seat. It's the seat right after an infant rear facing seat. He hasn't quite made it to a "booster" yet b/c I wasn't sure when he is eligible to move up. Thanks for the info provided BTW-I live in NC
