Books for Learning to Read

First grade, age 6, is when learning to read begins because that is the age at which children are developmentally ready to learn the abstract concept that letters translate into meaning when put together. The reason so many kids are having trouble with reading nowadays is because we are pushing literacy too early! At least that is my opinion. Let kids be and let them learn to love books. They will read when they are ready. Push them too early and they will hate books.

So don't worry if he is not reading! Let him enjoy life!

We use starfall too! Brady is into the calendars right now and he has a great understanding of them/months now. He likes the early lessons. Starfall is only one of 3 sites he uses and is definitely his favorite. I think someone on here may have told me about it a couple of years ago.
