Re: hospital vbac - using the shower/tub

I'm pretty sure nobody can force you to have continuous monitoring if you don't want to... but I am going to answer the question about the monitors, although i did not have a vbac but i was monitored most of my last labour. It was only about 3.5 hours anyway... but I had a pretty scary high heart rate and they wanted to keep a closer eye on the baby. However, after they obtained the initial trace reading to get admitted, they put the portable monitors on me, which is basically just a small disk, and it transmits the signal wirelessly to the machine... it stays on using a belly band type thing. I could wear it in the bath and move around do whatever I wanted. (I was wearing it in most of these pics http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/...d.php?t=916663). At some point I probably could have asked them to stop monitoring as things were fine but actually I got so deep into labor land that I actually didn't even think about it as it didn't bother me.
