Re: Jelly Bean glucose test alternative

That is too cool I did notice when I took my test this time (just a few months ago) that the drink really is better now than it used to be... With my oldest (13 now!) that was the nastiest drink ever. It seems like they are always working to improve it, though I wonder how hard it can be to make a sugar drink taste good???????????

Wow, that's awesome! I did the grape juice test, for the same reason. Never heard of a jelly bean test though! I'm totally passing this info along to my midwives!!! ha

Not the jelly bean test but I was going to be allowed to do a pancake test. I was tested at 10 weeks in my last pregnancy and that came back high so they wanted to do another and I told them I wouldn't be able to keep the drink down (my m/s hit hard at 10+ weeks, I was 16 then) so they were going to have me have 3 pancakes with tons of syrup at Ihop and have a blood draw within 50 minutes of eating. Those were my specific instructions. But I lost that pregnancy that same day.

My midwife had me eat some toast/eggs/protein/juice (nothing specific, just the servings) one hour before she draws blood. We do not eat any artificial colours/non organic foods, so this ended up working well! I never felt sick, and passed beautifully.

Ugh, the thought of eating jellybeans makes me sick but so does the thought of eating anything sugary.

Sorry for your loss mama My DDs pediatric endocrinologist thinks the sugar drink is crappy way to test. He prefers a fasting test, carb loaded meal, then testing right after, 30min,60min,90min,120min. Max limit should be 160 then under 110 in 2 hours.

My doc had lemon-lime stuff. It tasted like Sprite. Way better than orange!
