hemp vs bamboo
PROS and CONS?
I'm trying to save cash (budget!) so I plan on using prefolds. I figured I could get bamboo or hemp by the yard and maybe use those? If not as prefolds, then as inserts, but I'd like to know your opinions. Which one do you favor and why? And cons? This is to use for a newborn until toddler age. I'm looking for what every other CD momma is looking for, absorbency, hygeine, convenience, etc.. |

If you plan to buy fabric, you might consider flats instead of making prefolds. Flats are one-size so you'll save money. I prefer bamboo for prefolds/flats because it's softer and has some stretch. Hemp is slightly more absorbent, but rougher and not very stretchy. You could also do both - outer layers bamboo with a hemp inner layer. I love the feel of bamboo velour, so if I were making prefolds, I think I might do OBV/Hemp Fleece/OBF. That's assuming Zorb isn't in your price range? That stuff rocks.

Re: hemp vs bamboo
Zorb definitely is not on my price range
![]() Yeah I was thinking of flats, I mixed it up with prefolds. I wouldn't know how to sew a prefold properly So maybe I'll just layer the flats. And try mixing up the fabrics. Thanks, momma! |
