Re: When did your milk come in with 2 + child??

3 or 4 days with #1 (I can't remember exactly...)
less than 24 hours with #2.

I hope you get your milk sooner this time so you don't have to stress.

Re: When did your milk come in with 2 + child??

Baby #1 it came in at day 6 and baby #2 it came in at day 5.

My second baby was very jaundiced requiring daily trips back to the hospital for heel pricks. Every doctor that worked with us said to continue breastfeeding without suppliment because although it will take longer for a breastfed baby to lose the jaundice, the slightly longer lasting jaundice they see in breastfed babies is far less of a concern than in a formula fed baby.
Just my experience

Re: When did your milk come in with 2 + child??

5 days with #1 and then within 24 hours with #2 and #3. I also tandem nursed through my second and third pregnancies, though, os the stimulation was already there, my body was just waiting for the "right" hormones to make some milk.

Re: When did your milk come in with 2 + child??

4-5 days with each of mine. You might want to read the thread about "can hospital force a bottle" -- there's a story at the end about putting mom and baby w/jaundice under cover together during nursing time. I agree w/ pp's -- don't let them sabotage you. Baby doesn't need milk for first week, and it's OK to lose some of the birthweight -- that's why they fatten up in there the 9th month.

Re: When did your milk come in with 2 + child??

4 days with Gavin,
2 days with Claire

Neither of mine were jaundiced, so I can't share anything there. I think my milk came in faster because I had more experience and just put her to the breast anytime she even slightly seemed hungry/fussy/etc,. whereas w/ the first, so many people had said "every 3 hours", that if it wasn't close to that 3 hour mark, I didn't nurse him if he was just a bit fussy. If he was obviously hungry (smacking his lips, sucking his fist, etc.) I did feed him on the spot). Also, because of this, when my milk came in w/ Gavin, I was hugely & painfully engorged and hard as a rock, whereas w/ Claire, I suddenly noticed I had ****-star boobs!

Re: When did your milk come in with 2 + child??

I had c-sections with all 3 and my milk came in with each of them the day we came home from the hospital. So about day 4 on all 3. It did seem with the last one that he was getting more milk before it officially came in than the other two did. (For example - the girls both were still losing weight when I left the hospital. He was starting to gain already when we left, but I know the milk hadn't come in officially yet.)

Re: When did your milk come in with 2 + child??

Thanks so much for the support and encouragement! Something about being a first time mom made me feel like I had to do what they told me to do. I was sooo stressed out, I lost my backbone. Finally at some point I realized that I was the mom, so I get to make decision. It's encouraging to hear that even if you were late coming in on your first, the milk still seems to come in sooner with the next.
