Scared he will end up preferring a bottle
I have to have an MRI with contrast dye tomorrow. After doing some reading, I am most comfortable with pumping and dumping for 24 hours after or as close to it as I can get. I have been pumping every morning for 2 weeks and have 27 ozs and I will pump one more time in the am. DS2 just had a bottle for the first time last night. I left and had coffee with a friend and DH fed him. I was both happy and hurt. He nursed when I got home without a problem. Anyway, I am scared that after a full day of a bottle he will prefer a bottle to nursing. He is 4.5 months so our nursing relationship is well established. I do absolutely need the MRI and after everything I have read, I would prefer to try to let as much of the dye run its course as possible. I just am worried about damaging the nursing.

Re: Scared he will end up preferring a bottle
I was worried about my DS preferring the bottle over me and after my hubby said he did great after his 1st bottle feeding I cried
but I was also relieved. I'm sure he'll do fine after the 24hrs and I bet he will be so happy to be back at the breast. I hope everything goes well with ur MRI .

Re: Scared he will end up preferring a bottle
My dd is 6 mos and has been taking a bottle since she was about 2 mos. So, I thought our nursing was solid, but recently we have had 2 bouts of bottle preference, each lasting 5-7 days, so not to scare you, but even at your lo's age it can happen. I have an article for you that should help:
www.lowmilksupply.org/bottlefeeding.pdf The author, Dee Casings is an IBCLC in Connorsville, Il. and very well known in the tri-state. She is a "Breastfeeding Specialist" and did win a national award for this research. I am using this technique now and have had ZERO problems ever since!! Good luck with your MRI!

Re: Scared he will end up preferring a bottle
I had a CT with contrast the night of my c-section and nursed dd right after. It's a "guide" that they go on, but it isn't required. You can contact a LLL leader and they can give you lots of answers on what is safe to do while breastfeeding. They Dr's have a chart of things that may not be safe, but it really depends on what it is. Contrast can be passed in breastmilk, but it's so minute that it isn't an issue. Don't take my work on it though, you should really contact the La Leche League leader, those women are awesome, and do your own homework.

He would only take a bottle from me or from DH if I was not home. He went back to nursing like a champ. I am thrilled and thinking of leaving him with my Brother to go see The Hunger Games.

Re: Scared he will end up preferring a bottle
Glad it went smoothly! DS had expressed milk from a bottle for 9 wks per his GIs recommendations secondary to reflux. Now he's back to the breast fulltime
