Re: How Accurate are Sono Weight Estimates?
Saw my OB on a Friday, they estimated DD at 6 lbs, 2 oz. She was born on Sunday, two days later, weighed 6 lbs, 0 oz. She had meconium, which I think was what made the difference. If not for that, she would have been spot on. A lot of it depends on the experience of the sonographer.

Re: How Accurate are Sono Weight Estimates?
Mine have so far been almost spot on. They predicted DS2 at 36 weeks to be around 9.2 at birth and he was 9.8. This baby is predicted to be about 8.12 to 9.2 and I'm 3 days late now, so we'll see.

Re: How Accurate are Sono Weight Estimates?
I had a sono at 30w 6d and my Peri said that my son would be 8 lbs at his birth at 38w 0d (planned c-section). He was 8 lbs 1 oz at birth.
I think it really does depend on the experience of the person doing the scan. I was shocked when he was born at that weigh from that sono 7 weeks earlier.

Re: How Accurate are Sono Weight Estimates?
The weights are based on measurements. So if your child is measuring perfectly at 34 weeks, but their waist and chest are measurments are at the 90th percentile, their weight can be pretty far off. I had one at 36 weeks 5 days. My OB said that the weight wasn't really what she would call accurate, but since the waist size was so much bigger than all the rest of the measurements we should be prepared for a hard delivery. Turns out the weight calculations were pretty spot on and I had a 9lb 4oz baby on my due date...but he was over and inch shorter than my first child and we went home wearing 3mo clothes becasue he was nice and round in the middle.

Re: How Accurate are Sono Weight Estimates?
I never had late u/s with my previous 2. This one was estimated to be 6lbs 10oz at 36 weeks so if thats accurate she should be right around 8lbs right now. We'll see! She did have a massive belly though, not sure if that messes anything up. Her bones measured right on target with my edd but her stomach was 3 weeks ahead.

Re: How Accurate are Sono Weight Estimates?
I had an U/S the day ds was born @ 33wks 2days, they estimated he was 4# even and he was 4# 8oz. Seems like half a pound makes a big difference when they are that small.

Re: How Accurate are Sono Weight Estimates?
They are so inaccurate in late pregnancy I can't even figure out why they bother?! It's weird.
