Re: vitamin drops
Breast Milk is PERFECT! Vitamin drops were invented mostly for formula fed babies. Most doctors don't know very much about BM or BF so I would not just take their opinion. My Dr. tried to get me to give my son floride drops with vitamins and I took them home and I didn't give them to him. My new Ped. who BF her babies until they were almost 3 told me that other Ped. try to over florinate and give TOO many vitamins. Search it out yourself ... HTH

Re: vitamin drops
Thanks everyone so much! I knew about the Vitamin D aspect and we have been taking him outside usually a little each day, but at least every couple of days. I pretty much agreed with what everybody said, it is just great to get some support from other moms
I do breastfeed by the way, I don't think I mentioned that in the OP. So no more vitamin drops for us! Man those things smell sooooo bad! I am very glad to toss them out.

Re: vitamin drops
Our sons doc recommended vitamins for our picky eating 2 yr old, so we tried the enfamil drops.... the same thing happened, he puked! I actually took them back to walmart, they had no problem taking them back...

Re: vitamin drops
I see you already stopped the drops, but wanted to respond.
We don't give the kids any vitamins at all... someday down the road if I decide to give them vitamins they will be whole food vitamins like the ones I take. Our ped never recommended them, although I think he does recommend fortified baby cereal (which we don't do either ).

Re: vitamin drops
Hmm. My dr prescribed Alex poly-vi-flor at her 6 mth appt, I have probably given them to her a total of 4 times. 1 of those she puked up. I guess I should look at that more. I did know that they weren't necessary as little babes but I figured at 7 mos maybe she did need them. After all, I've always taken vitamins.

Re: vitamin drops
This question is a great example of the variety of recommendations of pediatricians. My DS has seen 3 pediatricians in 3 different practices for well visits. He is 10 mos, but we moved and changed insurance.
Not a single one of them recommended vitamins, and my DS is BF and was EBF until 6 mos.If they had been recommended, I would have declined based on my research of the topic.

Re: vitamin drops
It was recommended to me along with flouride drops for my DD. I just chose to ignore that.
Once I stop nursing, I will probably give her vitamins just to make sure that she is getting what she needs. Right now, she gets all the vitamins she needs from me.
