Time outs?

It's usually not effective until age 2 or later. A calm firm 'No throwing ' followed by removal of the item if it continues, and distraction work best here.

As for tantrums, we do a firm No with an explanation and acknowledgement of feelings followed by offering alternatives: No, you're mad you can't have the knife, but knives will hurt you. Do you want to read a book with mommy?'.

Time out for disobedience but not necessarily for tantrums but like my 15month what seemed like stabbing me with fork I would but for when I said no u can't have that knife & a tantrum no. I did when I started time outs went by age for length. I saw it mentioned b4 & on super nanny u leave them b & if they get up time resets a bit or can just keep going I don't remember. I wasn't in spaking. House but if kid ran into street when cars were around then swat would be in the works....just for them to feel & understand that wasn't safe & not to do again.
