Talk to them about listening and how important it is, explain that things are going to change. Tell them you will only tell them something one time, and if they don't listen, there will be a consequence (whatever is appropriate in the situation). If you follow through consistantly with only telling them once and then the consequence, they will become *much* better listeners in just a few short days. If you keep following through, your listening problems will vanish altogether. Don't do things for them--when they grow up and are at work and there bosses ask them to do something if your kid doesn't listen he will be fired. The boss won't work for him. Good habits start early.
