Alphie Robot
Any body have one of these for their kids? My mom wants to get one for Ds bday (turning two yo) and we don't normally do toys like this. She said she knew it wasn't our normal imagination driven toy but she liked that it would help him with talking and counting etc (which I'm not worried about but my patents are worriers).
Reviews and thoughts appreciated!

Re: Alphie Robot
I wouldn't rule it out as I looked at them a few months ago and they are cute, but looked more of a hassle than it was worth and it seemed like one of those toys that would loose interest quickly. If someone got it as a gift, I'd happily take one though. My favorite is the Leap Frog and Vtech versions of the text and chat/count and learn.

Re: Alphie Robot
For a 2 yr old - I probably wouldn't get it. Our alphie had to be put up out of ds's reach until recently because he'd just bend and rip the cards. He didn't get how it worked either. He'll be 3 in Oct and in the last month he's been gentler with it but still doesn't really 'get' how it works yet. He mostly just pushes the buttons. I think in another 6months to a year he'll really enjoy alphie.
We got it for dd2 but she has never really enjoyed it but she dislikes pretty much all educational toys. |

We just rediscovered Alphie after our move & DS age 4 loves it. Before he was too little.

Re: Alphie Robot
My MIL got DS one when he was 3 or 4 I think. Before that he would not have really have gotten it. He LOVED that thing but it eats up batteries and is SUPER annoying.

Re: Alphie Robot
I had one as a child (looked way different then it does now) and I liked it.

Re: Alphie Robot
I had an Alphie when I was growing up! That thing was awesome. It had different cards for math, reading, spelling, and other things. My sisters and I played with it quite frequently. I think that we still have him somewhere. Fond memories!

Re: Alphie Robot
I agree that 2 might be too young - DD1 got one for Christmas when she was 3 and loved it, but some cards were too hard for her even then.
