it sounds like an awful situation. I can't tell you what to do. I have no perspective on what your DH is going thru.

What I know---- my parents divorced when I was 11. My dad did not put up a "fight" for time with us and was very off-and-on with monetary support. I could overlook the $$...but I could never overlook that he chose to "give up". It had a great impact on my feelings towards him and obviously our future relationship. I loved my mom and wanted to be with her and no one else...but a big part of me still wanted my dad to TRY...if ykwim.
The other issue to consider is how your DH will feel about himself as a father if he loses his parental rights.

you sound at peace with this decision. I'm really happy things worked out in a way that you are pleased with. It's never easy dealing with blended family issues.

Oh, how I wish I hadn't done that.
