Yesterday, at the mall my nieces wanted a balloon animal. I told them as long as they behaved they would get one.

They were both well rested, we ate, and then went into a store. Holy cow, forget it. I even did three strikes your out and it didn't work.

The one who behaved got a balloon animal, the one who did not unfortunately didn't receive one. I felt evil, but I knew if I didn't stick to what I said it would lead them to believe I'm bluffing.

Reminds me of the "we will get along shirt" hehehe I'd totally do it bc my kids are the same way to dh...and they work it....but they only see him a few times a year so I do let some of it slide. Otherwise for me being home alone with them I think u just gave me a new project lol

I think that if it helps them get over themselves and laugh at their behavior, it's a great idea.

When I read about making them wear a "tattle tail" the first thing that came to mind was the Scarlett letter.

I don't think it is a mean thing to do, but not necessary. You would then have to always have them with you and be ready for them to wear them in public.

I would have just told him if he doesn't stop acting like that then he wouldn't be going to the park at all. I'm glad it gave you and dh comic relief when you needed it. That was probably the most useful they will be, lol.

Meh... No one is ostracized or shunned , its just a friendly reminder to make sure you're not tattling .

ajane that's kind of why I was questioning it... but we wouldnt be making them wear anything in public, and we wouldn't do it in a way that would make the kids feel ridiculed.

I guess I'm just trying to think of ways to address ds' attitude, which has not been the greatest lately. And I didn't explain very well. This isn't for tantrums. This would be an attempt to help ds learn to have a good/positive attitude. So often it seems, even after a seriously really flipping fun day, one small thing will disapoint him and it's "ooh I neeever get to do anything fun". Even, we could go to the arcade and 3 days later he's asking to go again, if we say no he'll say "I neeeever get to go to the arcade". :headscratch" dude, we just went the other day!

IDK if that just sounds like typical 5yo behavior, but it really is an attitude thing.
