We've used Sittercity, but we have a free military membership. We found our current nanny there and I liked that we could see references and run background checks. FWIW, we also bought a nanny cam for our home for extra peace of mind.

I use sittercity and care.com for both to find sitters and as a nanny. I like them both but I too as a Military spouse don't have to pay anything.
