Fifths disease

My dd came downstairs this morning looking like she got hit by a truck poor thing. She has a rather non productive cough, a fever (102-103ish) and sniffles. She started out with a crescent shaped rash on her right cheek like this:

by this evening her left side of her face looked like this:

Front view:

It's kind of rough feeling. Fifths disease comes to mind although I have no experience with it. What do you all think? And if it IS fifths, how long does this usually last? Obviously I'll take her in to the doctor, but just want ideas. Thanks!

I had fifths as a 6th grader. It took forever for me to get over it. The older you are the harder it hits. There isn't really all that much they can so with fifths unless there are complications related to it.

Re: Fifths disease

Not sure what it is, but be careful to keep her away from anyone who might be pregnant until you know for sure. Fifths disease is very dangerous during pregnancy.

Does the rash resemble fifths in your opinion?

Does she have a lacy rash on her torso too?

Eta: her cheeks have the "slapped" look that I'd associate with fifths.

no, but from what I read that comes after the cheeks usually so I will keep an eye out for it.

I would call the doctor and ask them. Also, call her school nurse. She will probably want to warn any pregnant teachers/staff members if Fifths disease is in the school.

she's homeschooled but her sister isn't. However, it's a tiny school and pretty sure noone is pregnant. I will let them know anyways.

The school might want to send out a saying there is x disease going through school for others to be aware of it. Shew probably got it from someone else like cold our flu on how it spreads.not much they can do since virus. Get fever down and just do same things as if cold since that's how it spreads. Shouldn't last long.
