when to call for vomiting diarrhea?

2 year old starting vomiting Wednesday night in the middle the night. started diarrhea the next morning. No vomit on Thursday. No vomit on Friday until late at night (more like gagging/excessive spitting). No vomit on Saturday until middle of night (just now, full contents). diarrhea has continued steady. She's having no trouble drinking water and eating small amounts, just can't keep it in her for 3 days now. urgent care in the morning?

It sounds like your dd has the same gi bug that hit our house two weeks ago. If she's keeping fluids, I'd wait another day or so. It took a full six days to work out of my kids. (The vomiting stopped before the diarrhea.)

Oh gross. We got it from my brothers house and it went through his kids in under a day. Like one night of vomiting and then just tired the next day, no diarrhea either. I feel so bad for my DD.

That's how it hit me and dh, but my boys took longer.

Re: when to call for vomiting diarrhea?

Personally I wouldn't bother with urgent care unless you know it is a bacterial infection. All an urgent care will do is check her vitals and issue a Rx which is not helpful for a stomach virus. If she needs medical help then the ER is the place to send her because they can actually give useful intervention if she reaches a state where she needs help.

I would watch for signs of severe dehydration and high unresponsive fever. If either of those comes into play get her to an emergency room. If both of those come into play at the same time get her to the emergency room pronto. The combination of those can send the heart into a tachycardia rhythm and she will need to be stabilized if this occurs.

I would ride it out unless she is severely dehydrated, personally.

This was my son. First time mom here and I took him in (my mom was making me worry more, and I never take in for anything). They didn't do anything. Just told me to keep offering him liquids even if he just takes a sip

This was my thinking. This stomach bug we have around here lasts for about a week. The baby still has some diarrhea, and it's been a week and a half for us. Yuck.
