The spanking debate.

What are your opinions on spanking?

I am against spanking. I feel it is a lazy, mean and ineffective way to discipline a child.
DH on the other hand feels that spanking teaches a child to respect.
What do you think?

We spank when it is necessary.

We do not spank for aggressive, violent behavior (hitting your sibling, throwing something, etc.)

It is not often at all, twice a month - maybe. There are times that we feel it is necessary. If it done in a way that helps the child understand why, not out of anger, and is not excessive... it can be beneficial, for SOME children. It does not work for my middle DS.

I think that this will turn into a disaster thread that will leave us all needing a spank/naughty corner.

Besides that, I regularly spank my husband, mother and my teeny dogs. None of them take me seriously though. The horrible lack of respect. I swear! ROFL

Haha, I started a thread like this on here, had noooooo idea how contentious this issue is. Whoops.

To answer the question: I was spanked as a child, don't feel like it did any harm to me personally, suspect it may have encouraged violence in our relationships as siblings, and have no intention of spanking my daughter, ever (partly in principle, and partly because I don't trust myself to be "responsible" with physical discipline).

But since it's open now I'll answer. I don't spank, was not spanked as a kid. I don't believe in physical punishments.
