It gets better. Try massaging your breasts every time you shower. Have you considered pumping for a while? As this bad phase passes you'll see the light at the end of the tunnel and you'll be happy you pushed through

I HATED breastfeeding. I think I cried every single day over it for the first two months. Then, one day, it was magically better.
I had sore bleeding nipples, over supply, forceful letdown, plugged ducts, everything. There was nothing wrong with our latch, I just seemed extra sensitive. It does get better. And it is so worth it. Now I wish I could have done for so much longer and look forward to #2 to have that bond. I have some medela lanolin sample packs I can send you, pm me if you want them.

I nursed my first till he was two after spending the first three months crying every single day (and sometimes every single nursing session). It got better. And number two was a breeze. Best of luck! You'll be so grateful you stuck it through in a few months.

Re: Please tell me it gets easier..
![]() so sorry you're having a rough time. you're doing a great job hanging in there! I agree about finding someone to help you with the baby's latch- for the long term solution.

Re: Please tell me it gets easier..
Thanks ladies! Emotionally I'm feeling a bit better today.
I have no intentions of quitting, no matter how hard and painful it gets. I've been showering every 2 hours and massaging, then feeding right away(if the baby is asleep then I pump). I will try to find someone to help with the latch issues, but I'm not sure where to look since we live overseas. I will try to get in contact with a German LLL group. I think the plugged duct was caused by stress. I read somewhere that stress can stop your milk flow and this issue happened a little over an hour after DH and I got into a very heavy discussion.

Re: Please tell me it gets easier..
The absolute best thing I have found for my nipples that no one here has mentioned yet is coconut oil. Totally safe for the baby to consume and has been a savior. My twins are rough on my nipples and this has really helped. It also helped clear up a case of thrush before it got out of control. HTH!

Re: Please tell me it gets easier..
I totally agree -- it's not easy and no one in my life ever prepped me for how hard it would be, but it sounds like you are on the right track!! One thing I did when I was unsure where to turn when I was having issues (but didn't know I was having issues) was to watch youtube for latching issues... There are a lot of good videos out there.
Also, here's a link to LLL in Germany (English version), and it looks like there are two ladies you can call... it won't let me post but put "www" on the front of this link : .lalecheliga.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=428&I temid=168 Good luck, mama! Re: Please tell me it gets easier..
I am only 3.5 months in and no expert. I did not have some of your issues but you are doing great.
We did fight the latch and for us it got better and better from 5 weeks. I did coconut oil as well and some air time for the nipples to help them heal. Keep up the great work. |
