I use GMD prefolds with Flip covers for my 3-month old son. I'm happy with the setup and washing routine. I have a tumble-dryer and not a hot-air dryer. So, I line-dry the prefolds after they come out of the tumble-dryer and they get sunned about for 2 hrs and then they go into share. The prefolds come back all crunchy and stiff. Any ideas on how to get the soft? do dryer balls work good with tumble dryers? shud I go for baby fabric softener?

Re: Crunchy prefolds! - what to do?
No fabric softener for diapers at all, you can toss them back into the dryer to soften up.

Re: Crunchy prefolds! - what to do?
I loved the feel of crunchy prefolds when I had the line...if I brought them in when they were just barely damp they didn't get as crunchy.

Re: Crunchy prefolds! - what to do?
I usually use vinegar in my rinse cycle when doing diaper laundry and today I ran out. My prefolds came off the line very crunchy.

ecover fabric softener is safe for diapers and they stay soft.

Re: Crunchy prefolds! - what to do?
I found that if you dryer dry/ air fluff dry them for like 5 minutes before line drying, they are much softer after they are all dry (rather than straight line drying from the washer)
And I found that Ecover doesn't really do much if you line dry (straight from the washer) |

Re: Crunchy prefolds! - what to do?
I've heard vinegar helps too. I tumble dry for a few minutes before hanging my fitteds or I'll toss them in for a few minutes while they're still damp. If they're fully dry and crunchy then a wet sock in the dryer helps. But mine is a hot air dryer so I don't know if that makes a difference.
