Re: When does the weightloss kick in?
The general "safe" weight loss for a nursing mom is 1/2 to 1 pound per week, so weight loss that slow takes a LOT of time. That said, statistically, women that breastfeed loose weight faster and more easily than their formula feeding counter parts.
What you eat makes a big difference in hormone levels and over all weight loss. Eating lots of protein instead of high carb snacks will go a long way to curbing hunger and weight loss. Fruit, vegetables, etc. I am a tandem nursing mama. I generally lose a ton of weight initially post partum due to my body going hyperthyroid then I crash and go back to using my synthroid with minimal weight loss. A ton being about 25 lbs of pregnancy weight (I generally gain between 30-35 lbs). That said, for my body, something magical happens between 9 months and 1 year and my body starts shedding weight again. I am usually at my pre-pregnancy weight by 12 months post partum. My goal is to go 10 pounds lower this time so my next pregnancy will require less weight loss, but I'm pretty lazy, so won't actually do anything to make it happen. I am just borderline high BMI for height, but I'm sure at least 5 lbs of that is excess breast tissue, so I don't worry about it too much.

Re: When does the weightloss kick in?
I just had my older sister comment on my lack of weight loss yesterday. My DD isn't even 8 weeks old and she scolded me for not wearing a girdle or something because my stomach is still so fat. My sister is so nice, huh? But she BF while eating like crap and loss weight easily.
I've found that weight loss for me is difficult, especially in the tummy area. I thought it would be different with EBF but I've only lost 10 pounds since having DD. And I gained the recommended 30 lbs. So now I'm eating healthier like I did before, just in larger amounts. So no more cookies, chocolates, cake, etc. for me! I'm also trying to cram in exercising as well.

Re: When does the weightloss kick in?
I lose gradually from the point baby is born on. My son is 5 months and I still lose a lb every couple weeks. But I'm way below what I started out before getting pregnant now

I don't lose weight while BF
. SO frustrating! Not with DD, and haven't with DS (7mo) either. I was told "we'll maybe when you stop BF" .... Nope, not then either. It took blood sweat and tears.... And 3 years to get to PP weight only to get preggo again.... *sigh*

Re: When does the weightloss kick in?
Glad i'm not the only one not losing weight while EBF Everyone said I would lose weight really fast, but I havent really lost much of anything since ds was born. I gained 35 lbs in pregnancy, and probably have only lost like 20 of them. DS is 5 months... I dont dare not eat because I am extremely hungry all the time still, and some days so is DS!

Re: When does the weightloss kick in?
I remember when my first ds was 6 months old (he's now 10) I went to a concert in my hometown and ran into a high school friend's mom. Her eyes lit up and she said, "oh how neat that you're expecting!! Leah is too!!" I could've died. I told her, no I've got a 6 month old and just haven't lost much weight yet. The sad thing was I had JUST Started to feel ever so slightly more normal and OK with my appearance and that whole conversation wrecked that. Ugh!

Well I never lost my pregnancy appetite with DS1 luckily I still got back to normal weight. Then he weaned and I gained 25lbs! I got pregnant the next month and I'm still bf ds2. I was able to lose 30lbs on weight watchers last year. I'm going to be starting again when I can afford to join.

I lost all of my baby weight at 6 weeks pp with ds1 and pretty much maintained till I was preggers with dd. it's the same this time around where at my 6 weeks pp visit, I was back to prepregnancy weight. I feel I'm still losing but am not sure how much. I stopped weighing myself for several years now and judge based on the clothes I'm able to wear. I don't know if I'll be able to get back in shape, closer to prewedding shape but am hopeful. Oh, I bf exclusively; DS for ~18mos and dd now.
