You know, my sister's baby had something like that in his cheeks. First one side and then on the other. They were right below his cheekbone directly in line with his pupil. It totally stumped the doctors then to. They put him on antibiotics 3 times and switched antibiotics to try and get rid of it - on one side he had a reoccurring bump. They eventually went away after about 2 months for each one. The Dr. said it wasn't mumps because it didn't involve the salivary glands which were farther back, closer to the ears. They were painful and red at first for him and then just hard lumps in his cheek. what it was. Maybe her pediatrician was wrong? He was a young guy.

I hope your little one is feeling better. Have they sorted out what it is yet? If not mumps, have they checked cellulitis? Dear friends of ours had a little one who developed cellulitis on her cheeks when she was less than 6 mos. They have no idea where it came from, what caused it. It never broke the skin, just looked like these hard, swollen, hot red patches. She was hospitalized for a few days, treated and it never came back.
