Re: Medicaid and OOPS! I didn't make it to the hospital birth..
Quote:
I have no issues going to the hosp afterwards. I would nurse and deliver the plancenta first. But honestly, even though I've had 3 low risk pg's - you never know what will happen. So I will take it week by week and if I feel like it's worth the risk to go u/c, then we will, otherwise we will labor as long as possible at home then make our way to the maternity ward.

Another thing I was thinking is some birth centers accept Medicaid and also have a homebirth option, if there are no other clients in labor at the same time. Do you have any birth centers nearby? This could be an option to consider.

Re: Medicaid and OOPS! I didn't make it to the hospital birth..
Nope. No birth centers. And I was just assuming that they'd have to be a cnm for Medicaid to accept them. I know when we had our first hb we ended up working with a gal that was about an hour from us. I had to drive to her for most of my appts. Not a big deal when I only had one other lo. But the area I live now, most of the mw's (that I know of) don't come out this far.
But I guess I just need to call the office and flat out ask them if they do cover and who they have on their list. I'm not holding my breath though. sigh.

![]() Mama, I can tell you are stressing over this. But the WORST they can say is "no" and then you are no worse off than you are feeling right now. Actually, you'd be in a BETTER place b/c you'd know for sure, rather than trying to guess. Everything will be ok ![]() But do call and check. You may be pleasantly surprised! Or, maybe not. But it's worth a shot either way. Have you tried looking around your area for some independent midwives? I had a Medicaid homebirth in 2008 with an independent midwife who lived 1 hour from me. It was crazy trying to find an independent midwife. Since they are not affiliated with an office, they are harder to find, but often their services are just as good (sometimes better!) than those operating out of an office or as part of a group. Research, research, research! Then you can make a choice you are truly happy and comfortable with! I know you are feeling overwhelmed right now, but once you start calling around, you will probably start feeling much more confident and see the direction you need to take. Hang in there, mama. ![]() ETA: Here is what I found after just a very quick google search. May or may not help. I don't know. http://www.missourimidwife.com/ http://www.peacefulpathmidwifery.com/index.html

. I am stressed. I know what I want, just trying to find a way to make it happen. Any ideas about how to find an ind mw? I haven't a clue. I was going to make a few calls to the mw's in Kansas City, and maybe they could help me find one. I know my mil mentioned something about the Amish community having mw's. idk. I know that the Medicaid here just switched to a new company. I will make some calls tomorrow or Friday.

Just google things like "homebirth Kansas" or "homebirth services Kansas" or similar things. You can also google doulas in your area and ask if they know of any homebirth midwives that would service your area. If you get a midwife that doesn't service your area, or doesn't accept medicaid, just ask if they know of any who might. Sometimes you can get great references that way, or at least a few possibilities.

You mentioned mws in KC, how close are you? I had Medicaid and delivered at New Birth Company in Overland Park KS.
![]() Missouri Medicaid covers your postpartum visits up to 6weeks and then usually qualify you for a well women's program. I am certain MO paid for my mothers tubes to be tied (twice!) but that was in '93 an '95. Edit: okay, I just looked up Chanute, wowee that's a drive from here. I would recommend calling New Birth Company though- I am certain Kendra or Cathy could recommend someone near you. Possibly even put you in touch with Justine, she lives in Lawrence. Good luck!
