Had a bad experience with cloth nursing pads with baby #1 a while back. Leaked terribly. Have used disposable ever since for that reason. Well we have been dealing with thrush on and off for 6 months now with baby #3. We have had thrush 5-6 times since birth.

(Going to try some different things for that) but I bought doing away with disposable, plastic backed pads might help the situation.

So...with that being said...tell me about super, super absorbent pads that are still breathable and where I can buy them.

Can't wait to get some input so I can start the ridding of thrush process once again.

i make wool backed ones that are breathable and leakproof. super absorbent. as far as the thrush google jack newman's apno there's a "recipe" to make your own with OTC creams. i used nystatin for months and that worked practically overnight

Thanks. I have that cream. And my DS has nystatin. I am going to exclude sugar and yeasty foods and dairy and see if that helps. We can get rid of it, it just keeps coming back.

I found the prescription stuff to be pretty ineffective at totally getting rid of thrush, FWIW. ((ETA: Make sure you're rubbing the medicine in his mouth with a Q-tip and not just squirting it in. That could be the make it or break it thing, according to the LC that diagnosed and helped us treat Thrush.)) Apple Cider Vinegar compresses can help treat, kill, and relieve symptoms on your breasts. If the baby is old enough to eat yogurt, that may help as well. If it seems like a systematic issue for either of you a probiotic taken daily may help.

As far as reusable nursing pads go, I have been using THESE for a couple years now and I LOVE them. I loved them so much I bought more when I was preggo with Noah. I struggled with over-supply and over active letdown with B and K, as well as N. There was only one brand of disposables I could use without leaking and that held up well for me. I got so tired of running through boxes of disposables I really wanted something better. I had tried other brands of re-usables and none of them were as thin or worked as well as these. There is no backing to them, but you won't need it. In addition to them being very absorbent they don't make you look like you stuff your bra.

Personally when I nursed I LOVED bamboobies. They were just super gentle and thin and didn't leak. The ones you find in the stores were just too rough for me of the reusables.
Mine never got thrush but I did get an infection and used that violet stuff. Very odd but safe for baby and it worked so that's all I cared about.
Nursing is tough, congrats to you for sticking to it!!

I like the new Bamboobies overnights. They are round, a little bigger, and more absorbent than the regulars. However they are still so soft. They have a waterproof but somehow breathable backing.

Thankfully I haven't had to deal with thrush, but my LC actually recommended disposable pads for the early nursing period specifically to AVOID infection. Other ladies can probably correct me, but if using cloth pads during a thrush outbreak I think you'd want to add GSE into every wash.

(I used disposable pads initially and then switched to cotton pads made by LLL. They're probably not great if you leak a ton, but I *love* them for light leaking. They are so discreet under my professional attire and incredibly comfortable!)
