Baby MTK arrived on Feb 11 with quite an entrance!

My birth plan was for an unmedicated hospital birth. I succeeded in receiving no medication, but I did fail to get to the hospital in time to have the baby there! While my first labor took almost 12 hrs, this one was over in just 3hrs - from the point I woke up with questionable cramps to the point of delivering our son at the foot of our staircase. My water broke only 15 minutes prior to delivery. I had gone up the stairs to change my pants for the car ride in and decided to use the bathroom, too. I could tell I was involuntarily bearing down while on the toilet but definitely felt that much of my pain was because I was not fully dilated and that I was pushing against the cervix still. I knew we had to leave and fast but I did think we still had time. At the top of the stairs I was less sure and halfway down the stairs I felt the baby was crowning and told my husband to call 911 instead. I had barely made it to the landing and was in the process of lying down when our little boy made his entrance. My husband tied off the cord and unwrapped it once from around the baby's neck. EMS arrived just minutes later. Other than a slight bruise on his forehead, he is in perfect health - 7lbs 7ozs, 20 inches long. We have to stay in the hospital for 2 full days for observation because I tested strep B positive and didn't receive antibiotics, but looks like we will be heading home in the morning!
