WTH?
Yesterday, I fairly thoroughly wet and wrung out about 30 of my recently-purchased, slightly stained dipes for the babe, and hung them out on my drying rack. That was 24 hours ago, and it's been pretty directly sunny both yesterday and today. Result? Not only were most of them not dry (okay, it's averaged 45 degrees F, so maybe that's to be expected), I saw little-to-no improvement in the stains. ![]() Is it the kind of stain? I can tell some of the stains are formula or whatever, as opposed to poop... but there are some poop stains, too. I mean, MAYBE a couple of the stains are a LITTLE lighter, but there's not much difference I can see, really. Anyone? Advertisement |

Re: I fail at sunning!
I usually soak in rockin' green over night, do a regular wash then hang on the line. I have heard some ladies use lemon juice on the stains so you could try that. I live in Las Vegas though so I can sun things in under an hour in the summer and even when it is cold there is no moisture so things dry quickly.

Re: I fail at sunning!
I fail too. I have 1 stained prefold I tried to sun yesterday, I washed and dried it and stuck it in the sun, and no change. Maybe winter sun isn't as strong

Winter sun is not as strong, especially in higher latitudes. Some stains are also more resistant to sunning, EBF always come out great but not necessarily every stain. I would just keep using and washing them, they often fade slowly with use, or try oxyclean stain treatment. Summer sun will almost certainly work better!!

Re: I fail at sunning!
I only sun in the summer when it is hot out. Otherwise it takes too long. I use oxyclean (or a natural version of it) instead.

Re: I fail at sunning!
I am not bothering with sun unless the diapers are really stained. I just plan to wait until summer.

Put lemon juice on the stains while the diapers are damp from the washer. Worked like a charm for me

Re: I fail at sunning!
I do not have the best of luck in the winter sunnign it takes days
I have never had good luck with a window either. The glass distorts the sun's rays and since it is winter the sun isn't as strong. Even if it is cold out you can hang them outside. In the winter it takes two or three full days in the sun to get some of the really bad EBF stains out for me. I don't rewash each time, just wet in the sink. In the summer--I have found the sun works much, much better.
