Poor sick baby...C. Diff, please help!

I have had it twice. It is HIGHLY contagious! The first time it was fairly mild, similar to what you describe for little one has. The second time was awful, in isolation at the hospital for 10 days and almost had my intestines rupture and almost had to have a section removed. Vancomycin and flagil are the antibiotics used to treat it, probiotics, specifically Florastor is great. Stool transplant is a secondary treatment I'd the others are unsuccessful. Be warned since she has had it once she is prone to it in the future. So anytime I think I might need antibiotics I immediately start a higher dose of probiotics just in case I need them, I continue the higher dose throughout the antibiotics and a week or two after. Yogurt, read the ingredients, the type of culture matters a great deal. She absolutely can't go to daycare until she tests clear, she could infect all the other kids and providers.

Mine was diagnosed with this today she is almost a year old.

So sorry to hear you are going through this too. Hope they both get better soon.

We ended up in ER tonight because she started vomiting today and had liquid stools. Gave us anti nausea meds and sent us home. Not sure if vomiting was related to C. Diff or another bug, but I wasn't taking chances. No signs of dehydration, so that is good.

Back to primary care tomorrow. I am going to ask to be referred to GI specialist.

We also have appt. with natropath on Tuesday. I have never tried one, but figured with all the stuff she has going on right now, another opinion will be good. Hopefully she can take a look DDs whole body and offer some solutions to get her back to healthy.

Oh mom I hope she feels better soon!!!!!!!!! Get a gi specialist soon!!! That's who my dd sees. Also my Dr said never give a person with c. Diff an anti diarrhea med at all...please get that checked out
