Crotch Strap Position on Radian

Am I correct that the crotch strap when FFing should be so that they are not sitting on it? I think I need to move my oldest's strap to the farthest position. She is 40 lbs and 5 yrs old.

On another note, I am shocked that she only has a half inch before her shoulders hit the straps. She's not a very large child; shortest in her class! She had a growth spurt last month and just filled up half of the remaining room like *that*. I'll be sad when we have to move the Nautlius from DH's truck into my van...it's not pretty.

"Sitting on it" is kind of hard to define to me. She shouldn't be sitting on the buckle, but the strap itself should come straight up, or angle out away from her, not in toward her.

Meaning that the slot where the strap goes into the seat is underneath the child...so guess I need to go out there and wrestle with it to change that before we go anywhere today. Thanks.
