Oh, and see if there's a CD swap/exchange in your area. I found a FB group for my area and I've been able to pick up a number of items that way and save some cash while adding to my stash and sampling items.

Re: Never done cloth before, need suggestions

I am not aware of close places where I could go and look and touch dipes, and I am not too keen on trying to do it online, I need to see and feel.

Re: Never done cloth before, need suggestions

I would definitely check Facebook or Craigslist. Even if you don't want to buy too much used, I have brought samples of my whole stash to a Craigslist meet-up so the moms could see the different styles in person. We didn't have an actual store near by so a few of us in the locals threads on here started a Facebook group. So check there, too!

I agree that flats or prefolds are great economic options and pretty easy for someone willing to learn (my mom will only use my pockets, but dh has learned enough to use prefolds and flats in a pinch). Plus, all babies are shaped different, but flats and prefolds are more adjustable in my opinion. And if baby changes shape you may be needing some new covers, but not replacing a whole stash.

It helped me! I have been meaning to ask you what folds you liked on newborns! I have 36 fitteds so I may not use flats (especially if this one is born early and small) right away, but I did bring them with me!

I have cloth diapered 3 kids, and from what you said I would recommend mother ease diapers- they have a one size and sandy's fitteds, both are great. I have large babies also, and there is a size XS sandy's that works great in the newborn stage. good luck finding something that work for you!!

(I'm only not recommending prefolds because they are not easy for my husband and he complains...) prefolds are my personal favorite.

Do you have a cloth diaper store near you? I live near the diaperjunction.com store front. They have been lots of help. Maybe you can go in a store near you. I did an all in one - bumGenius 4.0 with my first who is 2 1/2 and now out of diapers and plan on doing the same for the second that is due in April.

Re: Never done cloth before, need suggestions

I loved our GMD prefolds with our first baby. I really liked the fact that they were sized so I didn't have to do some elaborate origami to get them to fit properly. I am planning on using them again for baby number 2 in April. There is a b/s/t board on facebook for all things GMD. So you could start your stash for a good price or you could buy new and always resell on the board :-).
